What is Rotation Sunday School?

What is Rotation Sunday School? It is a four week study of one Bible lesson. The children are broken into groups, based on grade, and rotate to different stations each week.

According to Howard Gardner there are 8 different ways that we all learn. By acknowledging our children learn in different ways, our curriculum offers a variety of teaching methods to address these styles. By focusing on one Bible story for a four week period, the children are able to explore the lessons in more depth and greater detail.

This is our third year using the Rotation Sunday School model, and the kids & teachers have really embraced this method of teaching & learning.

What are the Stations?

We have five stations and will use only four per rotation. The five stations are:
Creation Station: Arts/Crafts
Garden of Eatin': Food Activities
Holyword Theater: Educational movies
Rock of Ages Stages: Drama
Cross-Training: Games, Puzzles, Science Projects, Special Talents

Our Sunday Morning Schedule

Sunday School will be held every Sunday from 10:45-11:45 following the church service. At 10:45 a bell will ring indicating the beginning of Sunday School. All Kindergarten through 5th grade students will gather in the Sanctuary to discuss the rotation theme for the month and to raise their voices in song to praise the Lord. At 11:00 the children will be dismissed to their stations for the day. Another bell will ring for the dismissal of Sunday School.

Our January Rotation: The Fulfillment of the Promise

Long before Jesus was born, people hoped for the coming of the Messiah. Jesus, the fulfillment of that promise, was God's way of connecting hope and peace to God's people. Isaiah, a prophet whose name means "God has saved," told people of God's promise to send a savior to help them. During Advent we tell the stories of Jesus' birth. After just coming off the Advent season, our K-5th children will use this prior knowledge to take an in-depth look at the promise Isaiah made and how God fulfilled it with the birth of Jesus Christ. It will be a fun, learning experience with many exciting activities planned throughout the month.

Memory Verse

"Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Look, the young woman is with child and shall bear a son, and shall name him Immanuel." Isaiah 7:14

Our Mission Project: Heifer Project

Our next mission project will take place during this rotation. We are asking the children to bring offerings each week, which will be placed in a bassinet. At the end of the rotation the money will be used to purchase a cow through Heifer International to send to countries for families in need.

How can I help?

Helping is very easy and a lot of fun! There are many different ways to help. Here are a few:
Teacher: 1 Rotation commitment (4 Sundays) You will be in charge of teaching one station for the duration of the Bible story. You will teach the same lesson each week with some modifications depending on the grade level. The lessons are preplanned for you.
Shepherd: 1 Year commitment (May share with another person) Act as "mentor" to children and stay with a particular grade level throughout the rotations.
Helper: (Flexible commitment) Help teacher in the teaching of the lesson.
Music Leader: (Flexible Commitment) Share God's word through music during the gathering time in the Sanctuary.

The most important thing to making our Rotation Sunday School work is through faithful servants. There are opportunities for assisting as little as one Sunday each month or as often as every week.
