John Wesley and his fellow believers saw our work in the simplest terms. To paraphrase his inspiring words:

"Do all the good you can, in all the places you can, to all the people you can."

Local Missions

We give to and participate in a number of area mission needs:

  • Gretna Neighbors: This past year, we adopted 4 families through Gretna Neighbors to provide Christmas gifts for the family. The congregation enthusiastically purchased items on the family's wish lists and delivered them to Gretna Neighbors for delivery.

  • Food Pantry: Our United Methodist Women lead the charge in the fight against hunger. We support both the Gretna Neighbors Pantry and the Pearl Memorial Food Pantry in Omaha.

  • Communion Offerings: When we receive communion, we take up an offering to respond to needs both here and abroad. Past offerings have supported Gretna Neighbors, The Wesley House, Hallam United Methodist Church, World Communion Sunday, just to name a few.

  • Brush Up Nebraska Paint-a-Thon: Giving homes a new look, and homeowners a new smile. Visit our Paint-a-Thon page for more details.

  • UMW Missions: Our local United Methodist Women's chapter supports a number of organizations. Visit the UMW Missions page to see more.

  • District Missions Each year, Missouri River District Churches give to support missions within the district. Justice for our Neighbors is one such mission.

    Youth Missions

  • Our Rotation Sunday School classes and our SWAT Youth Fellowship are helping out Project Linus: a national organization which donates homemade blankets to sick and needy children.

  • Our Senior High Youth group has travelled far & wide to spread the Gospel and make our world a better place. See pictures from our 2006 trip to Toledo.

    Connectional Giving

One way we accomplish our mission is through our apportioned funds, a method of giving that proportionally allocates the general church budget to conferences (which subsequently apportion to local churches). More simply put, United Methodist Churches all contribute to the denomination based on membership and other factors so that together, we can accomplish a lot. This method of giving has become a strong, generous tradition and a personal, lifelong commitment.

Together, through our connected congregations, we United Methodists accomplish what no single church, district or annual conference ever could hope to do. In this way, each individual, each family, each congregation gives a fair share for the church's work. We combine our prayers, presence, gifts and service to make a significant difference in the lives of God's people…in every place we can; as often as we can.

United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR)

UMCOR is the humanitarian relief and development agency of the United Methodist Church, a worldwide denomination. Compelled by Christ, UMCOR responds to natural or human made disasters—those interruptions of such magnitude that they overwhelm a community's ability to recover on its own.

Our One Great Hour of Sharing offering goes to support the administrative costs of UMCOR, so that all donations to UMCOR relief can go to work for those in need.
