Reaching Out
|
"Love is the fulfilling of the law, the end of the commandment. It is not only the first and great command, but all the commandments in one. Whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, if there be any virtue, if there be any praise, they are all comprised in this one word, love." - John Wesley
We strive to show love to each other and our neighbors here in Gretna, the greater Omaha area, and throughout the world. Please consider how you can get involved and show love to others through Our Outreach. |
Heartland Hope |
We support Heartland Hope by volunteering at the Food Pantry on the Third Saturday of each month. Meet at the church at 8:30 am to carpool, or meet directly at Heartland Hope at 9:00 am. We are usually finished by 12:30 - 1:00 pm.
|
Open Door Mission |
We host a hat & mitten drive for Open Door Mission each fall and other drives as needed.
|
Youth Emergency Services |
We help to support the youth served by YES through donations of warm clothing, personal items, hand warmers, and our monthly donation of Outreach Bags (known as "YES Bags"!) Each bag includes a peanut butter & jelly sandwich (heavy on the peanut butter), a granola bar, raisins, and chips. The Seekers Sunday School class makes 100 bags each month, and Team 4:12 makes 50 bags that are taken to YES for distribution.

Gretna Neighbors |
Our congregation supports this local food pantry serving those living within the Gretna Nebraska Public Schools District. Small groups often provide services such as inventory control and collect items as special needs come up.

BrushUp Nebraska Paint-a-Thon |
The Brush Up Nebraska Paint-A-Thon is a community based volunteer program that paints the homes of low-income elderly and low-income disabled homeowners so that they may maintain their property, increase energy efficiency, and beautify the community. Painting their home creates a new sense of pride to the homeowners, and to homeowners in the area. Brush Up Nebraska was established in 1989, and in its first 18 years has painted over 2,015 homes with the help of volunteers participating in Paint-a-Thons. Brush Up Nebraska serves the Omaha Metropolitan community area including: Omaha, Bellevue, Gretna, Elkhorn, LaVista, Ralston, Papillion, Springfield, and Council Bluffs, IA. We have painted at least one house (and as many as three) each year since 2005. Visit their website at www.brushupnebraska.org

United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) |
UMCOR is the humanitarian relief and development agency of the United Methodist Church, a worldwide denomination. Compelled by Christ, UMCOR responds to natural or human made disasters—those interruptions of such magnitude that they overwhelm a community’s ability to recover on its own.
Our annual One Great Hour of Sharing offering goes to support the administrative costs of UMCOR, so that all donations to UMCOR relief can go to work for those in need. UMCOR collects hygiene, school, and cleaning kits for distribution within the United States. Kits help sustain everyday life for people who lack ready access to essential supplies when a disaster strikes. |
