Within our church
Hospitality Team |
A person, couple or ministry team is responsible for set up on a specific Sunday which is scheduled several months in advance. If you are unable to set up on your scheduled Sunday, a replacement is found by contacting the group. Also, if last minute conflicts arise, contacting the group via e-mail always results in someone or several people stepping up to help out. As of now, the usual time between scheduled setups averages about 5-6 weeks depending on the events scheduled for fellowship time throughout the year.
Responsibilities The responsibilities of setting up for hospitality on a Sunday morning are simple, cut and dried, and fun! Start by making coffee – decaf and regular; set up hot water for tea and hot chocolate; place the donuts on trays; set out water and juice boxes; and finally, place the napkins, donation jars, sugar/creamers, etc. on the long tables for ease of use by our congregation and visitors. That’s it and your done for the day. Clean up is provided by a monthly rotation of committees and sections of the alphabet by last names. All members of the congregation are asked to serve in this way during their designated month. The Hospitality Team is looking for new people to join our group. Please prayerfully consider serving our Lord, our congregation and our visitors in this capacity. |
Funeral Committee |
This group provides luncher dinner for funerals held at Gretna United Methodist Church. Volunteers help set up the meal, serve, and bake desserts. If you would be willing to bring a salad or dessert to the church, make some phone calls to help organize, set-up the day of or evening before, or "work" serving the meal, please contact the church office.

Worship Committee |
The worship committee coordinates the events of the Sunday Worship calendar and schedules volunteers to serve as Chancel Guild, ushers, greeters, candle lighters, sound tech, computer presentation, and fellowship set-up/clean-up.
In addition to committee members, we are also in need of rotating service volunteers: Chancel Guild -- Serving on the Chancel Guild committee is an opportunity to service your church without meetings to attend. You can volunteer for a month or two and during that time you order and set up the communion on the first Sunday of the month and then change candles and alter clothes each week as needed. The annual calendar is usually set at the beginning of December. Usher/Greet -- Volunteers are asked to usher or greet about once every 2 months. It is a great way to serve your church and at the same time get to know the GUMC congregation. Sound and media -- It takes a coordinated effort to provide the quality presentation for everyone in worship on Sunday mornings. If you have knack for technology, then we could use your help! Acolytes -- youth in grades 4-8 can carry the light of Christ and serve as candle lighters in our Sunday service. A quarterly schedule will be published with each student serving once every month or two. If a scheduling conflict comes up, students may be asked to fill in. |
Memorial Committee |
Members work in consultation with the Pastor, Board of Trustees, Worship Committee and Education Committee to develop a "wish" list of recommended memorials to the Administrative Board for approval. This committee is different than most as it only meets when necessary and does not have a budget (monies in, monies out).
The committee recognizes the receipt of memorial gifts and monies, keeps a record of all memorial gifts, and recommends purchases to the Administrative Board for approval. The "Wish List" will be available to all concerned with purchasing a memorial gift with their memorial monies. |
Finance Committee |
The finance committee is responsible for raising, dispersing and managing funds of the Church by providing financial direction, providing for the annual funding program and the annual budget, providing financial communications, financial reporting and accuracy of the numbers, and building philanthropists.
The committee meets approximately every other month and/or when special meetings are needed. Among the duties of the members is the counting of the offering and delivery to the back each Sunday and each special service. The committee also includes the Lay Member to Annual Conference, Church Council Rep, SPRC Rep, Trustee Rep and Lay Leader. |
Nurture Committee |
The nurture committee exists to encourage and nurture members of the Gretna United Methodist Church by celebrating significant church events and providing meals as needed.
Some of the existing nurture programs include: Cradle Rock (annual service), baby blankets for baptisms, meals for will or recently hospitalized members, membership directory, Lenten dinners, Confirmand luncheon, Senior breakfast, Mother's/Father's Day celebration, and Advent dinners. Several future plans are in the works so we could use more help! |
